Henrik Nieratschker works as an artist, designer, educator, and researcher, among other things. In a general sense, Henrik‘s work is concerned with a critical view at contemporary life amidst digital infrastructure, most recently focussing on (postcapitalist) politics of work and future technologies of rest.
Henrik has studied Digital Media (B.A.) and Fine Arts (Meisterschüler*innenstudium) at the University of Arts Bremen and Design Interactions (M.A.) at the Royal College of Art in London and is currently finishing his PhD studies as part of the Binational Artistic-PhD Program at the University of Arts Bremen and the PhDArts Program at the Royal Academy of Art The Hague and Leiden University.
Henrik is co-founder of the artist collective and record label
Research and Waves, which develops record releases, exhibitions, and experimental events at the intersections of sound art practice, curating, and artistic research. Henrik has formerly worked in the Working Artists Studio in Portland (OR) and is currently an active member of the board of Künstler:innenhaus Bremen.
Henrik has lived and worked in various places across four continents, including Bremen, London, Cape Town, Portland (OR), and Kyoto. Henrik has taken part in numerous exhibitions, residencies, and events, amongst others with Arebyte Gallery (London), V&A Museum (London), Brighton Digital Festival (Brighton), Science Gallery (Dublin), Kyoto Institute of Technology (Kyoto), GAK Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst (Bremen), Changing Room (Berlin), Urbane Künste Ruhr & Haus der Geschichte des Ruhrgebiets (Bochum), Aalto University (Helsinki) and most recently Personal Structures Bienal (Venice).
